The Perfect Cure for a Food Hangover – Yes, another green smoothie recipe

Yes, just what you needed, another green smoothie recipe.

October in my house means Spooky Movie Month. (I can’t do scary, hence the “spooky.”) My boyfriend makes a list of spooky movies and sends it to friends and family. We all watch as many of the movies as we can and give them a grade and a short review at the end of the month. Watching spooky movies is a great way to take your mind off of the law school stress.

Last night, my boyfriend and I hosted a Spooky Movie Night Party. We watched the cult classic, Sleepaway Camp. (A campy horror film, with far too many man-crop tops, wickedly bad 80s hair, and one freaky ending.) Although technically it was a movie night, with my friends it always becomes mostly about the food and drink.  My friend Brian brought an awesome BBQ Beef roast, Reena made baked brie, I made Pumpkin Pie Brownies & Pumpkin Pie Martinis, and my dear friend, Amanda made a salted caramel banana bread cake. (Pictures of all of this magic soon to come).

Anyway, needless to say I needed to eat light today. My friend Hannah – who will be running the Chicago marathon next week- is doing the 30 day green smoothie challenge! (For more details go here: http://simplegreensmoothies.com/30-day-challenge). She inspired me to cleanse from last night with a nutritious smoothie.Image

Here’s what’s inside:
1 cup spinach
1 cup almond milk
A spoonful of non-fat plain Greek yogurt
1/2 of a frozen banana
1/2 cup frozen strawberries and blueberries
3-5 mint leaves (torn up)
1 teaspoon Chia seeds or flax seeds
1/2 scoop whey protein powder

Blend the spinach and the almond milk first. Then add in the fruit and yogurt. Lastly, add in the seeds, protein powder, and mint leaves.

This was just what I needed to feel refreshed and back on track….Now if only there weren’t cake and brownies left in my kitchen…
